LORD GRANT THAT I MAY NOT SO MUCH SEEK
Gumla- Jharkhand
Much of our love is confined to mere lip service and dreams of good deeds accomplished, but true love must be expressed in unselfish acts of kindness that bring others closer to our Heavenly Father. Jack H. Goaslind.
The state of Jharkhand is a state of diversity; it is a blend of various tribal cultures. Though Christianity is a minority, there are many Christians in Simdega Ranchi and Gumla area where people long for the Word of God. Since 2012 we, the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of the sacred Heart, are working in Gumla, doing pastoral work, assistance to the sick, human and Christian formation, women empowerment and mission of education.
‘Lord grant that I may not so much seek...’ the sisters joyfully accept their call to live among this poor people, taking up every inconveniences and difficulties for the greater glory of God; they utilize every chance to serve the people in need, maintaining their poor life style. They are glad to exclaim like St. Francis... Lord grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console...; in their surrender, they truly experience the presence of Him who has promised.... “I am with you always, even to the end of ages.” Mt. 28;20.
The people of Gumla are mostly uneducated, addicted to alcohol, lacking motivation in life and no role model to imitate. In this situation, they are being exploited by outside forces. At this juncture, the sisters educate them to be aware of their rights, develop leadership qualities and to become self-sufficient. Heroism is not blind courage: it is selfless action. Our sisters are prepared to make the same heroic sacrifices for the promotion of the every person created at image and likeness of God especially women empowerment from thevery foundation. When faith replaces doubt, when selfless service eliminates selfish striving, the power of God brings to outdo His purpose. We firmly believe that “God uses men who are weak and feeble enough to lean on him” Hudson Taylor.
